PLANNING YOUR TIME

For a quick, targeted visit in the Old Town, head to the main square (Neuer Markt) and tour St. Mary’s Church (30 minutes). Then head down the pedestrian shopping drag called Kröpeliner Strasse to reach University Square, the Cultural History Museum, and the Kröpelin Gate (allow about an hour). On the way back to the station, history buffs will want to visit the Stasi Documentation Center and Memorial (allow another hour; it’s a five-minute walk south of the Old Town). All told, three or four hours are plenty to get a good taste of Rostock.
